The counselling service at the Maya Centre is accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) which ensures that our service is well-managed, and that our counselling associated services are of a high standard. Our counsellors are all either MBACP (members of the BACP) or BACP Accredited, meaning they abide by the BACP Ethical Framework in all of their work.

CONFIDENTIALITY

All personal material shared with our counsellors is strictly confidential within the Maya Centre. No information can be disclosed to anyone else without written consent from the client, except in exceptional circumstances. Exceptional circumstances may arise when the counsellor has good grounds for believing that someone may cause serious harm to themselves or others or are at the risk of harm being caused to them. Wherever possible any decision to break confidentiality is made only after speaking with that person.

All clients provide their GP details as part of referrals and GPs will be contacted if there is a concern about a client’s health or wellbeing: this is to ensure that we have a joined-up approach to the care of our clients. Clients are informed of any email being sent to their GP are included in the email, as well as any further correspondence.

ETHICAL FRAMEWORK

The Maya Centre is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). This means that we are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. All our paid counsellors are trained and in regular clinical supervision. We also provide voluntary placements for counsellors in training and those recently qualified who are supervised within the Centre; clinical supervision is a mandatory requirement for every counsellor here regardless of status. Should there be any concerns about your counselling, please speak first to your counsellor where possible. If you are concerned about any aspect of the counselling you are receiving or the service, you can follow the procedure outlined in our complaints procedure, which should be sent to admin@mayacentre.org.uk. We take all complaints seriously and work to ensure that the service you receive abides by the policies we have in place to safeguard your time here as a client.
